Japan 2006, Day 14 - Kyoto

2006年の初訪日:14日目(京都)

Short photographic travelogue of day 14 of my first-ever trip to Japan in the spring of 2006.

All photos shot with Nikon digital SLRs, edited in Adobe Lightroom 5.7 / LR Classic and ON1 Photo RAW 2026.

Day 14 of my first Japan trip in 2006 was the last full day spent in Kyoto. After breakfast, I went up Kyoto Tower - I had switched hotels, and my new hotel came with a coupon for the observatory. Views were enjoyable, I particularly liked zooming in on the modern architecture of JR Kyoto Station.

I then went to see Kinkakuji, the “Golden Pavilion” in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf.

In front of Fudo-do Hall at Kinkakuji, incense sticks were burning.

In the later afternoon, I went back to Ninenzaka slope underneath Kiyomizudera Temple. I ran into this group of visitors who had been dressing and making up as Maiko for the day.

In the evening, I took the train for a short ride to Osaka, where I checked into my next hotel as a base for the activities of day 15.
