Four More Scenes from Helsinki, Finland

Another small collection of images photographed at various locations during a recent stay in Helsinki, the capital of Finland.
Very close to our hotel in Kasarmitori, Helsinki, was the location of the National Memorial to the Winter War, an artwork by sculptor Pekka Kauhanen (1954-2020). It commemorates the contributions and fate of individual men and women during a three-month conflict between Finland and the Soviet Union at the beginning of World War II.

The next image shows the statue of Finnish national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804-1877) at Esplanadi Park. Not only was this the first public monument erected in Helsinki, but also these days it apparently doubles as an observatory for pigeons and seagulls.

In the Ullanlinna district of Helsinki, not far from St. John’s Church, was this pleasant scene of a housewares store with some inviting-looking outdoor seating in front of its window.

The last image is a view between Kluuvi district shops and restaurants towards Kellotorni, the clock tower of Helsinki Central Station. Measured from the ground level, the tower rises to a height of 48.5 meters, and when it was completed in 1919, it became the tallest tower in the city.
